1952 AFRICA Arts Accelerator is pleased to announce its first-ever exhibition ‘IDENTITY – WHO ARE YOU?’, a group exhibition featuring five amazing artists, Janet Adenike Adebayo, Oluwaseun Solomon Akinlo, Ademola Ojo, Ntiense Tom Udom, and Jane Ugah.
The 1952 Africa Arts Accelerator is a bold attempt to give undiscovered African creative talent an opportunity to be seen, heard, and celebrated today. The program aims to begin this transformation from the mindset of the artist. Through multiple workshops, mentor engagements, and cultural excursions, the mentees learn more about themselves and their art-arriving at a more confident version of themselves driven by their talent, identity, and culture.
The works presented by the artists grapple with the question ‘Identity: Who are you?’ As a person, an artist, and an African. They explore the different facets of identity that feed into one’s sense of self and the ideas that emerge from this understanding. The artworks grow out of this encounter with the roots of identity, revealing the effects that emotions, family upbringing, traditions, gender, and nature have on the artists themselves. This is more than an art exhibition, it is a story of growth and 1952 Africa is glad to tell this story alongside these talented and amazing artists.
